Third Eye review of a live performance in Calgary, Alberta, from a local 60's, 70's and 80's rock band. The three-person group is called Shadow Beat. If going to Calgary and you appreciate older music, you can just enjoy this combo. Do this if you have a chance.
"Get your motor running" That's what this band will do for you. I managed to catch these three person combo by accident Friday night in Calgary. She shook the walls in some east side pub called the Chelsea lost, and if the crowd was not large fire we had with this performance. And so was Shadow beat.
As the night went, I found myself To lose no time to waste, however. It was an experience worth living. The small town was a-happenin ', as they might say and we all enjoyed many well-known oldies (think John Paul George and Mick) and a few NotHeardThatinAge's.
And then they hit us with a sharp left hook. A few large wing-ding's from the country of the 1990 line-dance, and hat-head era. Personally, I'm not two-step, but many were Stompin 'their runners to this classic series of hits that Alan Jackson added the old favorites of mine and Grundy County Auction song. I could on the wall posters that country bands attending this institution. But that was a rock outfit with a little creativity dabble.
The first set I saw with Born to Be Wild from Steppenwolf and by the third or fourth choice, we were convinced that this group knew their appointment open. They were not much to see, went not seen a drummer on stage with them, or heavy metal concert in bar bands insignia years past. It was just the three of them. Dying to have a voice. They were just there. Binding. In your face. They were good.
I like it when I attempted a cover band, the well-known pieces to make their own and have fun with it. Admittedly, not Shadow Beat with each composition, this is not on the setlist but if they did, it shone through and the effort is worthwhile. They may wish to check the original versions of these songs. I did some Google and found out that they have their own mini-Internet station simply by typing Shadow Beat radio show found. Who would have thought a stage keyboard can be played? Not me, that's for sure. This guy Somebody sprinkled with magic dust, or perhaps a few extra recorded tracks. It is hard to say. Wait until "Time of the Season" by the Zombies. It's worth it.
In general, the band uses the Ups and downs (tempo, dynamics, etc.) into the material. When they were close, it was as good as it gets loose, and the walks between the songs always felt very casual. No one was intimidated. With the old stuff that I heard that night, you'll find back to your younger days, in a moment.
