Mozart – Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) $18.45 This will be the Magic Flute chosen by most people who want to live with just one. It finds Georg Solti in a relatively relaxed state of mind, with an excellent if not particularly famous cast, and an orchestra and chorus that any conductor would give his left arm (not the one that welds the baton) to work with. The singers are not particularly well-known (London seems to have set up Solti as the … |

Retro NES USB Controller $29.99 Sometimes you don’t mess with success. In the age of giant Atari joysticks the original D-Pad controller represented a streamlined approach to gaming input devices never seen before. The lowly “plus” has stood the test of time making it’s way into many modern controllers. In an era of gaming controllers with dual analog sticks, motion sensing and six triggers, sometimes the simple digital precision of 8 cardinal directions is exactly what the doctor ordered. The Retro NES USB Controller is perfect for creating old skool gaming nostalgia on your laptop. The standard NES plug has been replaced with newfangled USB. Hey, we wouldn’t recommend it for FPS shooters but it’s ideal for MAME and NES emulators. |

Remember the 80s? Well, they are back and everyone should wear big sunglasses stupid, Back to the future sneakers and listening to Duran Duran, representing approximately on how big they really were. And they should also play Bionic Commando Rearmed, a faithful remake of the 1988 NES classic Bionic Commando.
The game provides that you take control of Nathan "Radd" Spencer, who looks like a ginger-coiffed version of Michael Biehn. For some reason, one Spencer's bionic grappling hook instead of a right arm, which has also made him incapable of jumping. So instead of jumping from platform to platform, you must have the bionic arm jack in the landscape use and then fall off. At first it will feel clumsy, but after a few levels you will, threw herself gracefully around the platforms.
As with the Original, the game is not limited to side-scrolling platforming. You are transported from stage to stage with a helicopter pilot, but how to make your way through enemy vehicles may be interrupted. They are forced to land and Spencer is facing off enemies in a top-down landscape. Although all of these levels follow roughly the same format, they are always still great fun.
In the field of sound, the game is pitch perfect. It feels like the game of the original developers had in mind when they made 20 years ago: airbrush artwork, colorful, bold, and cheesy as hell cheddary. As the motocross game, Trials 2, this nostalgic gaming a post-millennial makeover, with nicely rendered characters, decent lighting, backdrops and 3D ragdoll physics. And it's got an awesome 8-bit soundtrack that is true to the original score updates, but also makes it sound like Daft Punk.
It is quite amazing how solid the game mechanics are still central. It feels like the 80s equivalent Portal, where it took a genre, and fundamentally change a single element, which resulted in an amazingly versatile gameplay. As for weird shooter from Valve, the key Rearmed is the time. Portal impact is also reflected in the newly added test chambers, complete with your hand to fight and pure skill.
Old School Multiplay
In addition to the single-player missions. Rearmed also includes a non-networked multiplayer mode. Good news (for me at least) This involves sharing a keyboard with your opponents, clamping memories of crowding around a partner to monitor in order to play Bomberman. Of course, would online gambling better, but plugging in a few extra pads is an option.
Co-op has also been added to the game. It works best on a Widescreen monitor, such as when a player ventures too far outside of the screen is split vertically. It's a little disoriented at first, but the species itself is fun. Developer Grin have to make the game more attractive to use social players, and I can imagine Rearmed will be as important as the oxen for a night. But it is not without a few setbacks. It is limited by nature and in a direct remake, it reminds you how bloody punishment and unforgiving season was in its infancy: no save points, only three lives away, and it's all over. This is the first game that I have this millennium, that includes playing extra lives, a concept so long lost in my mind that it filled me with fuzzy warmth.
It will not be to everyone's taste, but it's a bit of throwaway society pink fun, and probably the most perfectly realized piece of retro indulgence since Defcon. That is, until someone remakes flashback when 90s nostalgia kicks in.
